On March 29th, Pete suffered a stroke. This resulted in weakness in the right side of his body. While we deeply appreciate all of your well wishes and offers to help, at this time we are not encouraging visitors due to the sensitive environment needed for Pete's recovery. Once we make it out of the hospital and to a rehab site, we would love for each of you to visit. For the time being, we will update this website with any change in Pete's condition and plans for transfer to a rehab site, which we anticipate in the next several weeks. Thanks to all of you for your understanding during this difficult time. Our family has been overwhelmed by all of our friends' support and love.
Love,
Pat, Heidi, & Kari

ReplyDeleteWe are thinking of all of you down here in San Diego during these hard times. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Uncle Peter for healthy recovery. You have always been a great Uncle and even better person.

Dear Pete
ReplyDeleteI've heard that one of the best ways to help the recovery process is to listen to someone read to you. Well, how about hearing about sailing?
Did you know that I found a couple of great guys to form a new crew? Andy Walker and Chris Glass and I have been sailing in San Diego. I chartered USA-1043 from a friend and we've been learning how to be a crew together down there.
We were thinking that being in San Diego during the winter would be great, but in February and in March it was actually colder and wetter there than in Bellingham! Etchelling in 30 knots is exciting, as I know you know!
This weekend we flew down for the Mid-Winters. There was a 36 boat fleet and it was filled with rock-star sailors. Judd Smith was crewing for Bruce Golison, Dave Ullman, Vince Brun, Bruce Nelson, Peter Vessella (Star boat world champ), Chris Busch (North American's champ), and of course weekend warriors like John Pedlow, Craig Cooper and Lee Laney. I think you know David Jones from Seattle. Amazing fleet...100 of the greatest folks around.
Awesome regatta too. It was a three day event, with 3 races on Friday and Saturday and 2 on Sunday. Nice square line and courses, well managed, good weather and light shifty wind. You would have loved it!
Great parties, very friendly and even live music out on the deck on Saturday night. Frankly, its times like those that make it so special. So, Pete, get those synapses a'snappin'and get back out on the water with us. We're pulling for you, the whole fleet.
Tom Malone
Pete,
ReplyDeleteAs we get closer to the racing season many of us have been down at the Etchells lot prepping our boats. It won't be the same out there without you. I think of you every day when I look over at 570 sitting on the trailer. You are a fixture in our daily prayers. First race is tomorrow and you will be on the course with us in spirit.
Randy
Wow:
ReplyDeleteWhat a shocker! I'm so glad I just talked with Pat and got the word to check out this blog.
We were just in Charleston with the Dartmouth Class of 1962 and talked about Pete frequently. Little did we know - we just learned in an email to Liz, my wife, this afternoon.
Our thoughts are with Pat, Heidi, Kari and all the family and we'll be checking here often.
Hang in there and keep Pete moving to a full recovery!! Lots of love and good thoughts, Rog & Liz Usborne
